Proficiency in Security Awareness – New Mandatory Security Training

John Twiss, Chief Operating Officer at IMSA Ltd explains the new mandatory security training requirement “Proficiency in Security Awareness” (PSA) brought about by the 2010 Manila Amendments.

He explains the reason for this new mandatory training & how “Proficiency in Security Awareness” training needs to be undertaken by all seafarers¬†seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships that are required to comply with the ISPS Code. This includes this includes persons such as shopkeepers, resident entertainers, hairdressers, beauty therapists, waiters, chefs, pursers, beauty therapists etc

This training must be undertaken by all seafarers engaged on ships which are required to comply with the provisions of the ISPS code  (ie cruise ships, passenger vessels, cargo vessels, super yachts, oil & gas support vessels etc, over 500grt engaged on international voyages). All flag states should comply with this.
