IMSA offers a full range of Super/Leisure Yacht
security services. These services are provided through our associate company Yacht–Secure Ltd. www.yacht-secure.co.uk IMSA provides Yacht–Secure with operatives who are highly experienced maritime security professionals and have an understanding of the Yacht Security market that is second to none! Key to our service is the provision of personnel with direct experience and understanding of the Owners/Captains imperatives, from the ISPS code to counter piracy. This is borne of their many years experience as fully certified Ocean Going Yacht Masters alongside unrivalled military experience; in short, people who understand maritime security and its place in the running/operation of Super/Mega-Yachts. If the vessel carries firearms Yacht-Secure has the experience and training to utilise the capability in a manner that will be both a deterrent to any potential attacker and a confidence builder to the vessel crew. Conversely if the vessel does not carry firearms Yacht–Secure can utilise existing onboard equipment to form the basis for effective physical piracy countermeasures. Combined with the counter piracy plan that Yacht–Secure personnel will compile from their on scene security survey, an effective holistic counter piracy strategy will be put in to operation. Following a brief to the Captain and crew, drills will be carried out to ensure that all personnel will feel confident in their passage planning and with the presence of security personnel. All Yacht–Secure personnel are seasoned and mature professionals who fully understand the Owner/Captain/Crew relationship. Often crew members may have misgivings to a passage through uncertain waters and that they may also be very apprehensive about the intentions of security personnel before their arrival onboard. Yacht–Secure personnel will lay these fears to rest with their understanding approach to the vessels needs. Our personnel understand that they are on the vessel to work as team members with the crew to form the counter piracy strategy. A plan cannot work without the trust and cooperation of the crew. Recent Case Study: 40m Sailing Yacht on passage North. 15 0935 Feb 2007 13’ 27 N 43’ 02 E Approx 50 miles NNW of Bab El Mandeb, Southern Red Sea. 15 Miles NW of Al Mukha. Cse 347’ Speed 9 kts. S/Y was approached from an Easterly direction by 2 x small fishing craft carrying 5 personnel each. All previous small craft seen this morning (5) had no more than 2 personnel in each. The S/Y crew were mustered as per the vessel counter piracy plan. This plan was compiled by the 2 onboard Maritime Security specialists who were embarked for this specific passage. 1 x small craft went to a position approx 200m ahead of the S/Y track while the other made a wide sweep to approach from the starboard quarter. The S/Y crew carried out previously drilled procedures utilising onboard equipment. Having closed to approx 50m the small craft occupants could see that the S/Y crew were prepared to defend against a possible boarding. The small craft pulled away and rendezvoused with the other craft well astern of the S/Y. They both then departed in a SW direction towards a distant dhow. It is possible that the 2 craft were operating from a mother vessel. The above was sent to the IMB Piracy reporting centre, Kuala Lumpur and was reported in the piracy summary of 16 Feb 2007. www.yacht-secure.co.uk |
