Proficiency in Designated Security Duties

Training in Proficiency in Designated Security Duties  must be undertaken by all seafarers & security personnel engaged on ship who have designated duties under the ships security plan.

This is the new minimum standard as defined in the MCA Directive to ISPS code training companies.

Those carrying out personal close protection and/or ship protection duties on ISPS Code compliant ships do not need to hold SSO qualifications unless they are the designated SSO on the vessel in which they are serving. However, as they will be carrying out ships security duties they will have to hold an MCA approved or recognised Certificate of Proficiency in Designated Security Duties

The course will train delegates to have sufficient knowledge, understanding and skills enabling them undertake designated security duties, onboard ship including the ability to maintain the conditions set out in a ship security plan, recognise security risk and threats, undertake regular security inspections and properly use security equipment and systems

These courses are compliant with current IMO requirements. This PDSD course is approved by the MCA.

Successful delegates will be awarded an internationally recognised MCA approved STCW’78-95, as amended, Regulation VI/6 paragraph 4 and STCW Code Section A-VI/6 paragraph 6 to 8 “Proficiency in Dedicated Security Duties” certificate.

Proficiency in Security Awareness Course

The STCW Convention and Code as amended by the Manila amendments (2010) contains new requirements regarding security training. All personnel employed or engaged on board ships to which the ISPS Code applies require this training. These Regulations came into force on 1 January 2012.

All seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships that are required to comply with the ISPS Code must undertake training in Proficiency in Security Awareness. This training / instruction must meet the requirements of Section A-VI/6 paragraph 4 of the amended STCW code.

Ship Security Officer

This three day course provides the SSO/CSO with the knowledge and skills required to carry out their responsibilities and duties. It is also suited to nominated deputies and those involved in aspects of ISPS Code Implementation.

The course will train delegates to understand their obligations and provide a full understanding of the ISPS Code, how to implement it relating to legislation, documentation requirements and how to maintain an effective security system specifically related to their operation.

These courses are compliant with current IMO requirements. The SSO/ CSO course is approved by the MCA.

Successful delegates will be awarded an internationally recognised SSO/CSO Certificate.

These courses are compliant with current IMO requirements. The PFSO course is approved by the UK Department of Transport (TRANSEC).

Successful delegates will be awarded an internationally recognised PFSO Certificate.

STCW 95 Basic Course Dates

IMSA is pleased to announce we are working in association with Poole Harbour Sea Survival in Poole to offer STCW 95 Basic Safety training.

Poole Harbour Sea Survival offer the 4 training modules from the STCW 95 Basic Safety Training Qualification. The 4 STCW 95 Basic Training modules are:

  • Personal Survival Techniques – 1 day
  • Elementary First Aid – 1 day
  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibility – 0.5 days
  • Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting – 2.5 days

You can book the modules individually or all 5 days together to suit your needs.

The Standard of Training, Certification and Watch keeping (STCW) code requires all seafarers to receive familiarisation and basic safety training or instruction in accordance with section A-VI/1. You will be made aware of safety procedures, the safety equipment available, employment conditions and the working environment on board a merchant vessel. This is essential information that will keep yourself, your crewmembers and passengers safe.

Delegates will be awarded internationally recognised MCA approved STCW95 certificates for each module successfully completed.
